Individual & Group Learning

Students develop through a combination of personalised lessons and wider musical experiences.
We offer flexible, tailored piano lessons for all ages (from 4 to adult). Beyond private instruction, students can join group activities designed to build musicianship and community—including beginner musicianship classes, intermediate and advanced keyboard skills, and Trinity Theory prep (Grades 1–5). We also host adult meet-ups featuring performance opportunities and discussions on practice techniques, music history and performance anxiety.

Innovative Tuition

Our approach goes beyond traditional piano teaching and helps students become independent, creative musicians.
Our approach emphasises playing by ear and developing strong aural skills, alongside song arranging and creative interpretation. Students explore composition and improvisation while discovering the practical application of music theory, making exploration and creativity an integral part of everyday learning. Above all, we maintain a thoughtful balance between traditional technique, core repertoire, and creative musicianship skills.

Grounded in research on how musical information is processed, our teaching approach has been developed and continuously refined over 25 years of hands-on experience and pedagogical study. It offers a clear, structured progression from beginner to advanced levels, backed by a proven track record of success with hundreds of students through every stage of their musical development.

Performance Opportunities

Students have regular opportunities to perform and develop confidence
Students can access two full studio concerts each year for audiences of over 100 people. Students completing curriculum levels participate in Graduation Concerts featuring individual 10–15 minute recitals on a concert piano, complete with professionally printed programmes, certificates, small gifts and livestreamed performances for family and friends. Furthermore, students are actively encouraged to participate in local and regional festivals and competitions.

Students are supported to achieve their goals and celebrate their achievements
Our students maintain an exceptional 100% exam pass rate with over 80% earning Distinctions and High Merits. We provide dedicated preparation for Trinity and ABRSM exams, as well as guidance for regional, national, and local competitions where our students regularly achieve First, Second, and Third Prizes, special distinctions, and national-level awards.

Our teachers share their passion for music with the MMQ community
Our teachers share their passion for music with the MMQ community through an annual concert for students and families. These events allow students to experience live performances from their mentors, while teachers stay deeply connected to performance challenges first-hand, using their professional experience to inspire and motivate the entire studio.

Support for Parents

We help families understand and support their child's musical journey
We help families understand and support their child's musical journey through informative parent meetings and practical guidance on curriculum, materials, practice, and motivation. Families stay well-informed with regular progress reports sent at the end of each term and after completed curriculum units, alongside individual meetings with the Head Teacher whenever extra support is needed.

Families receive consistent, clear, and approachable guidance throughout their MMQ journey, with all essential materials and books provided directly by the studio. Our teachers combine high-level musical training with strong pedagogical expertise and specialist knowledge in areas such as developmental psychology and performance anxiety. Committed to continuous professional development and research, our team uses a student-focused approach supporting long-term musical growth, led by a Head Teacher holding an MA in Music Education Research and a BA in Piano Pedagogy.

We believe students learn music much like a language, using improvisation to "speak" music, express ideas, and deepen their understanding. Arranging, composing, and creating with pieces are core components of our lessons, ensuring our students develop into well-rounded, creative musicians rather than just performers—a spirit celebrated annually at the MMQ Composition Festival.
