Your child will learn music the same way they learnt to speak.

Maybe you’re not sure whether your child is ready for piano lessons, or whether they’ll stay engaged during the lesson. Perhaps you’re worried that practice will become a struggle later on.

Or maybe you remember your own early music lessons as confusing, repetitive, or disconnected from actual music-making.

MMQ Approach:

At MMQ, we’ve designed a program specifically for young children that takes a different approach. It starts with how children naturally learn: through play, curiosity, and exploration.

The Keyboard Exploration Program is based on Music Learning Theory, which explains that music is learned in much the same way as language.

Children don’t begin language by reading and writing. They start by listening, imitating sounds and gradually putting those sounds together into meaningful speech and we know that  music develops in a similar way:

Listening first

Children absorb music through movement, singing, and regular exposure to quality music, just as they absorb spoken language by hearing it every day.

Imitation and "musical babble"

They begin by copying simple rhythm and tonal patterns, first with their voice and body, then at the keyboard.

Creating Music

As children begin forming sentences in language, they also begin expressing themselves musically. They improvise, combine patterns, and create their own musical ideas.

Reading Comes Later

Music reading is introduced when a child is developmentally ready for it, after they can already understand and create music naturally. This takes place once they graduate from the Keyboard Exploration Program.

What makes MMQ different?

Our pricing is simple, fair and budget friendly, with one payment each month between September and July.

A carefully designed early-years curriculum

Our curriculum is built on current research into how young children learn music. Lessons develop listening skills, coordination, musical understanding, and confidence before formal music reading begins.

Children build strong foundations through activities that are engaging, creative, and age-appropriate.

Performance at the core of learning

Performance is an important part of the MMQ experience. Students regularly have opportunities to share their progress through studio concerts.

These experiences help children become comfortable performing in front of others, while giving them a chance to celebrate what they’ve achieved.

Parent Support & Clear Communication

We believe that strong communication with families plays an important role in a child’s progress.

Parents are kept informed throughout their child’s learning journey and always know what their child is working on and what comes next. They have access to attending the lessons, specific resources to guide practice at home, informative meetings, reports, monthly newsletters, and progress meetings with the head teacher.

Caring, highly qualified, and experienced teachers

Our teachers combine advanced performance training with specialist teaching expertise and ongoing professional development. Their teaching is informed by research and focused on helping students build strong foundations, develop musical understanding, and become independent learners.

Just as importantly, they are patient, supportive, and genuinely invested in each child’s progress.

FAQs

Everything you need for your musical journey is covered! Your monthly fee includes:

  • All books and learning materials

  • Regular performance opportunities

  • Full access to workshops and studio activities

  • Ongoing, dedicated support from our teaching team

Not at all. If you’re not ready for a long-term commitment, you are welcome to try it out for just one month and decide if you’d like to continue afterwards.

We keep things simple and hassle-free. If you need to stop, just give us one month’s paid notice and you can end your lessons.

We are unable to offer make-up lessons or reschedule missed lessons. The monthly fee covers a regular weekly lesson slot during the school term, and lessons cancelled by the student, regardless of the notice or reason, cannot be rescheduled nor refunded.

If you are unable to attend a lesson in person, online lessons may be available as an alternative, which can be especially helpful for last-minute issues, illness or unexpected circumstances.

If you cannot attend a lesson, please let us know so your teacher knows whether to expect you at the studio or come to your home. When a lesson is missed, your teacher will provide notes or a video with guidance so the student can continue practising according to their programme until the next lesson.

If another student cancels a lesson during the same week, we are happy to offer that available slot to you whenever possible.
