ANDRÉ T. SHORT

Piano Teacher

André T. Short is an American pianist from Southern California. At age six he began his musical journey learning several instruments before dedicating himself to the piano. He began teaching and accompanying at age 16 and went on to study with Dr Janet Landreth at Colorado State University. During his time at university he also studied with renowned pianists Olga Kern, Valery Kuleshov, and Vadim Rudenko, and received several keyboard and chamber music scholarships before graduating in 2015 with honours. In 2012 he won the silver medal in the International Keyboard Odyssiad and Festival in Colorado, and in 2013 he won first prize in the university’s Concerto Competition. That same year he was also selected to perform at the Summer Music Academy in Kiev where he studied with Yakov Kasman and performed with the Symphonic Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine.

In 2020 he completed a master’s degree in piano performance from the Conservatorio di Musica “F. Morlacchi” di Perugia where he studied with Gabriella Rivelli to research and perform piano works by 19th and 20th century women as well as living composers. He is continuing his research on women in music through the lens of virtuosity in the doctoral programme at the Royal College of Music where he is a studentship holder for the year 2021/2022.

André’s diverse international experience as a soloist and collaborative pianist includes performance with choirs, instrumentalists, vocalists, and in musical theatre productions. His piano duo has also won several prizes in international competitions across Italy. He enjoys sharing his experiences and passion for music with his students and considers himself a perpetual learner. His students have ranged from preschoolers to adults and he has taught at all levels and abilities. Through research, performance, and teaching, he strives for a world where all students see themselves represented in the music industry and feel welcome to participate and reach their fullest potential in the exciting world of music.
